Understanding CBD: Benefits For Your Pet’s Health
We’ve all heard about the wonders of CBD, but is it actually beneficial for animals? In short, yes absolutely!
Its key benefits are:
- It’s a great anti-inflammatory.
- It helps with pain management, allergies, anxiety and seizures.
- Studies have also shown CBD to be very helpful in combatting pain and inflammation associated with arthritis and mobility conditions.
When it comes to seizures, recent studies have shown great promise in reducing the frequency of seizures, as well as slowing down the growth of tumours. For animals that are nervous, anxious, stressed and/or suffer with separation anxiety – it can work wonders in helping them remain calm and, ultimately, feel less threatened.
Other benefits we have seen over the years include:
- Helping with car sickness.
- Appetite stimulation.
- We have also seen amazing results in allergies and skin conditions.
There is a legal dosage recommendation and the CBD dosage is primarily determined by the size and weight of your pet. There is no need to rush the process and you should start off with small doses, leading up to the desired dosage that suits your pet.
Responsible manufacturers will always have a Certificate of Analysis, as well as be able to answer any questions you may have. We always recommend letting your Vet know about any CBD use. At the end of the day, we all want the best for our pets. CBD won’t make them live forever but, in most cases, it can help them be more comfortable, relaxed and above all happy.

The Science Behind CBD and its Effects on Pets
CBD is short for Cannabidiol. Cannabidiol oil is a liquid substance derived from the cannabis plant. As it comes from a plant – the oil is all natural, plant-based and non-toxic. It’s important to research and understand the science behind CBD, before giving it to your furry friend. CBD is definitely not all the same – one size doesn’t fit all.
Let’s take a look at the plants and see how it all works:
Cannabis plants are made up of over 80 different cannabinoids. There are two species of plants – The Hemp and The Marijuana. Whilst there are many similarities between these plants, including amazing medicinal properties, there are many differences too. The Marijuana plant is mostly recognised for its psychoactive effects. The Hemp plant, and the CBD oil derived from the Hemp plant, is the non-psychoactive variety of the Cannabis plant; meaning that it will not make your furry friend high, as it doesn’t contain any tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. This is what you want to look for when choosing a brand for your pet.
Look for the highest quality, pet-specific formulated products. Hemp-derived, Broad Spectrum or Pure CBD – these do not contain any THC and are the best for animals. Why? Because THC has shown (amongst other things) to cause confusion, stress, hallucinations, nausea and could well be toxic for their system.
When it comes to fighting cancers and tumours, various studies have shown that CBD – along with other compounds found in the hemp plant – can have the ability to prevent or slow down cancer cells and stop tumors from enlarging. CBD strengthens the body’s immune system and responses, therefore eliminating the formation and growth of cancer cells. The compounds also suffocate the cancer cells, thus blocking them from producing energy and growth. CBD oil can be used to supplement conventional medicines, especially whilst undergoing cancer treatments. It can help relieve the side effects associated with chemo and radiation – mainly loss of appetite and extreme nausea.
